Idaho police release video of In-N-Out Burger mass shooting that killed three

Twin Falls police have released video of a mass shooting that killed three people at an In-N-Out Burger, highlighting the bravery of an unarmed employee from a neighboring store who confronted the gunman. This intervention is credited with slowing the assailant and possibly preventing more fatalities as law enforcement arrived.

The released surveillance and bodycam footage, edited to obscure identities and graphic details, depicts the gunman approaching the drive-thru window multiple times and opening fire. In total, ten people were shot, with victims inside the restaurant, outside, on a nearby road, and at a car charging station.

What happened here was violent, frightening and deeply traumatic.

Police Chief Matthew Hicks stated that the motive for the shooting remains unknown. The gunman, identified as 24-year-old Chad Williams, died by suicide on a walking trail as officers apprehended him. Hicks described the incident as a "violent, frightening and deeply traumatic" event that shattered what should have been a "normal Saturday afternoon."

During the chaos, employees fled to a walking trail. The video shows the gunman encountering two individuals there, one of whom, identified as Braxton Steube, spoke to the gunman with his hands raised, distracting him. Hicks lauded Steube as a "hero" for his courage and selflessness, which likely allowed others to escape. An off-duty state trooper inside the restaurant also exchanged gunfire with the suspect, while a former police officer, AJ James, was wounded confronting him.
