IDF kills Hamas commander who invaded Israel on October 7 in targeted Gaza strike

The Israeli military and the Shin Bet intelligence agency announced the successful elimination of Hamas commander Jamal Mahmoud Abu Kamil in a targeted strike in Gaza City. The military stated that Abu Kamil was a participant in the October 7, 2023, invasion of Israeli territory and had remained active in planning operations against Israeli soldiers and civilians over the past three years.

This operation follows a recent strike by the Israeli air force on a terror cell in Khan Yunis. This incident marked the second such "attack of choice" in as many days after a pause in these types of operations since a new U.S.-Hamas deal was reached in late July. IDF sources indicated that while the Khan Yunis cell was not considered highly senior, it was actively preparing to carry out an operation against the IDF.

According to IDF sources, since the U.S.-Hamas agreement, the military has refrained from targeting Hamas members involved in the October 7 attacks or other strategic leaders. However, strikes continue against operatives actively planning imminent attacks. In a separate development, Israeli forces operating in Lebanon discovered and neutralized a booby-trapped structure near the village of Mansouri. The military reported that this building had been used for Hezbollah terrorist activities and contained RPG rockets and other unspecified weapons.
