IDF opens fire on suspected Hamas sniper near Gaza Yellow Line

Israeli troops fired on a suspected Hamas sniper posing an immediate threat near the Yellow Line in northern Gaza, the military announced Tuesday. The IDF reported that troops identified a hit after opening fire but provided no further details on the sniper's condition.

The Yellow Line, established under an October 2025 ceasefire agreement, originally marked the boundary of Israeli withdrawal, leaving the IDF in control of approximately 53% of Gaza. However, Israeli forces have since advanced beyond this line, with military officials indicating control over 67% to 70% of the Strip. This expansion has been a point of contention, with some US officials suggesting the IDF had returned to the original Yellow Line.

Senior officials from U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace stated this week that Israeli forces were positioned along the original Yellow Line, with no outposts remaining beyond it. They also claimed Israel had halted targeted killings and was observing the ceasefire in practice, despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's public rejection of the board's proposed framework. Netanyahu has maintained that the IDF will not withdraw further until Hamas is disarmed but will continue to confront immediate threats.

The IDF maintains its operational stance, asserting that Southern Command troops remain deployed in the area under the ceasefire agreement and are prepared to act against any immediate threats to Israeli troops and civilians.
