iDNES.cz introduces new ad and subscription model

Accessing content on iDNES.cz, Lidovky.cz, Expres.cz, and Antiyoutuber.cz now involves managing user preferences for advertising and content display. The platform offers two main options: iDNES Premium, which provides unlimited, ad-free access to all sites along with digital newspapers and magazines for 199 CZK per month, or a free tier that includes targeted advertising.

For users opting for the free tier, advertisements will be displayed, tailored to their interests based on their browsing habits and online activity. This personalization is conducted by MAFRA, a.s., and its 125 advertising partners. Users can revoke their consent for targeted advertising at any time, though doing so will prompt them to switch to the ad-free Premium service.

The platform also allows users to manage consent for other purposes, such as personalized content display, without necessarily upgrading to Premium. Certain data processing, not related to targeted ads, is based on legitimate interest, and users can object to this processing or adjust their privacy settings in a "Detailed settings" section.

The system outlines various data processing activities, including selecting ads and personalized content, measuring ad and content performance, audience understanding through statistics, developing services, and technical site operations. Users who choose the free, ad-supported option must explicitly consent to targeted advertising. However, due to technical reasons with advertising providers, users must also express disagreement with specific data uses for personalized content, content performance measurement, and technical site operations if they wish to opt out of those aspects while still using the free service.
