IEA welcomes Russian official’s remarks on counter-narcotics gains

Russia has acknowledged Afghanistan's significant progress in counter-narcotics efforts, with the nation's Security Council secretary commending the Taliban government's actions. Sergei Shoigu stated that Afghan authorities have implemented effective measures to curb the cultivation, production, and trafficking of narcotics, fulfilling their commitments. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) welcomed these remarks, viewing them as a positive reflection of the situation on the ground. IEA deputy spokesman Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat described the comments as accurate, highlighting the "significant and unprecedented operations" conducted against narcotics. He asserted that as a result of the IEA's decisive efforts, narcotics cultivation and production have "nearly reached zero." Fitrat added that the government remains committed to the complete eradication of narcotics from the country, indicating ongoing operations and policy enforcement. The Russian assessment suggests a potential shift in international perception regarding Afghanistan's role in global drug trade, particularly given the historical challenges the country has posed in this regard.
