Ignas Sargiūnas arrives in Istanbul to prepare for EuroLeague debut

Lithuanian basketball player Ignas Sargiūnas is moving to the EuroLeague after signing a three-year contract with Šarūnas Jasikevičius's Fenerbahçe in Istanbul. The deal includes a "2+1" clause, offering flexibility for both the player and the club.

Sargiūnas, who previously played for Rytas Vilnius, is preparing for his EuroLeague debut. He has already begun familiarizing himself with his new team, visiting the Fenerbahçe museum and touring the football team's stadium. He joined Rytas in the summer of 2024 from Klaipėda Neptūnas.

During his time with Rytas, Sargiūnas showed significant improvement. In his first season in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL), he averaged 6.7 points and 6.0 efficiency points, with similar stats in the FIBA Champions League. However, last season he emerged as a key player, averaging 12.9 points and 14.2 efficiency points in the LKL, and 11.2 points and 7.6 efficiency points in the Champions League. He notably scored 43 points against Lietkabelis Panevėžys in March.

He will now play under Jasikevičius, who has coached Fenerbahçe since December 2023. Jasikevičius has a strong track record, leading the team to three Turkish league championships, three Turkish Cup titles, three EuroLeague Final Four appearances, and a championship win in 2025.
