Igor Lichnovsky's Generous Gesture Brings Clean Water to Chiapas Community

Former América player Igor Lichnovsky continues to make a positive impact off the field, this time by bringing clean drinking water to the community of El Herrado in Chiapas, Mexico.

Through the Lichnovsky Foundation and the company Water is Life, the "Agua para El Herrado" project has revitalized the water infrastructure in El Herrado, located in the municipality of Acapetahua. The initiative is designed to benefit approximately 2,000 people from the region's indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities, with the potential to reach up to 3,200.

The core of the project involved the comprehensive rehabilitation of a 60-meter-deep community well. This was complemented by upgrading the hydraulic network, increasing water storage capacity to 12,500 liters, installing an advanced reverse osmosis purification system, and constructing new distribution infrastructure.

Before this project, families spent over four hours traveling by boat and land to obtain just two canisters of drinking water, costing around 500 pesos per trip. Now, they can access clean water within their community for just five pesos. This represents a 95% reduction in cost and saves families up to 1,900 pesos monthly, allowing them to allocate more resources to food, education, and other necessities. Lichnovsky's foundation has also undertaken similar projects in Kenya, focusing on football fields and clean water access.
