Ikadi Chairman Meets Qatari Ambassador, Extends Condolences for Sheikh Hamad's Passing

The Chairman of the Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian Ulema Association (PP Ikadi), K.H. Ahmad Kusyairi Suhail, met with the Qatari Ambassador to Indonesia, Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al Dosari, to express condolences. The meeting conveyed sympathy following the death of the 5th Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

The gathering, also attended by leaders of Islamic organizations, took place at the Qatari Embassy's representative office in Kuningan, South Jakarta. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani died on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the age of 75. He served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and is recognized as a highly influential figure in modern Qatari history.

During his reign, Sheikh Hamad significantly transformed Qatar, a small Gulf nation. His leadership saw the development of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, the establishment of the Al Jazeera media network, and the strengthening of education and scientific research through the creation of Education City. These initiatives positioned Qatar as a key player regionally and internationally.

Sheikh Hamad was also noted for being the first Arab and Muslim leader to visit Gaza while it was under a total blockade by Israel. His courageous visit in October 2012, accompanied by his wife Sheikha Moza binti Nasser and a high-level delegation, was seen as a strong symbol of Qatar's support for Gaza. He voluntarily abdicated in 2013, passing leadership to his son, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
