Illegal Campsite Emerges in Klaipėda Park as Tourists Ignore Rules

A city park in Klaipėda has been transformed into an illegal campsite, much to the dismay of local residents. Tourists in camper vans have taken up residence near the "Svirpliukas" kindergarten, occupying parking spaces and using nearby facilities.

One resident, Vladas, expressed his frustration, noting that the campers are "living there peacefully," but "throw their trash around and seem to deliberately ignore the sign clearly showing that this place is not intended for campers." He observed that the vehicles, identified by their license plates, belong to Spanish and German tourists.

Vladas has repeatedly contacted the police about the situation, but the camper vans remained. He speculated that language barriers might be hindering the police's ability to communicate with the foreign tourists, a notion the Klaipėda County Chief Police Commissariat has refuted. The police stated that officers are equipped with foreign language skills relevant to their duties.

Police confirmed they responded to Vladas's reports on July 7 and 8. "According to officers' data, on July 7, around 10:30 p.m., and on July 8, around 10:30 a.m., reports were received that 4 camper vans were parked in a potentially unauthorized location on Liepų Street in Klaipėda," the police stated. Administrative proceedings have been initiated against the four vehicles for violating parking regulations.
