Imo police train 300 officers in forensic, fraud investigations

The Imo State Police Command has concluded a two-day training program for 300 officers focused on forensic and fraud investigations. This initiative is designed to bolster the command's institutional capacity and enhance its human capital development in critical areas of law enforcement.

The training, which concluded on Saturday, is a component of the ongoing "transformative police reforms" championed by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu. Its primary objective is to equip officers with advanced knowledge of modern forensic techniques, intelligence-led investigation strategies, and effective methods for combating fraud, financial crimes, and other evolving threats.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Audu Bosso, emphasized the importance of continuous professional development, stating that modern policing necessitates officers possessing up-to-date investigative and forensic skills. He affirmed the command's commitment to leveraging such training to elevate service delivery and foster stronger public trust. The training also covered lectures on Anti-Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, and collaboration with the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit, focusing on detecting illicit financial flows and improving inter-agency coordination.

Dr. Pearl Ogbulu, Head of the delegation from Force Headquarters, commended the Inspector-General for prioritizing personnel capacity building. She urged the participants to maximize the training's benefits and uphold their professional and ethical standards. The program also delved into conducting financial investigations, with a specific emphasis on investigative procedures, evidence handling, and best practices in financial crime cases.
