Imole Alerts Nation, Int’l Community, IGP on Unsettled Political Climate in State

The Imole Campaign Council has issued an alert to the nation and the international community regarding the volatile political situation within the state. The council specifically notified the Inspector-General of Police and high-ranking security officials about the planned "systematic, unlawful arrests" of 46 Accord party leaders and prominent opposition figures by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, allegedly to prevent them from participating in upcoming elections.

During a press conference, Alimi Kolapo, Deputy Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council and commissioner for Information and enlightenment, revealed alarming security reports. These reports indicate a coordinated "hit list" created by political opponents working with compromised security operatives. The council has confirmed information that these 46 individuals are marked for arbitrary arrest, harassment, and forcible transfer to Abuja to neutralize their influence during the election period.

Kolapo accused the APC and its agents of weaponizing the police force against opposition figures, rather than using it for public protection. "We have confirmed information that the 46 individuals have been marked for arbitrary arrest, harassment, and forcible transfer to Abuja to keep them out of circulation during the election," he stated.

The council also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Taofeek Akinyemi, or that he be formally charged in a competent court if any legitimate allegations exist against him, which the council claims are unfounded. The alert underscores the council's concern over the potential for political repression and the undermining of democratic processes in the state.
