Impactful tornado recorded in rural Santa Fe, Argentina

A powerful tornado generated striking images in a rural area of San Jerónimo, Santa Fe, Argentina, on Friday, approximately 115 kilometers from the provincial capital. The phenomenon surprised residents, who sought shelter, though fortunately, no injuries were reported. The tornado emerged during an orange alert for storms in Rosario and other districts, with a yellow alert remaining for San Jerónimo until Saturday morning.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) predicted storms of varying intensity, potentially severe, with strong gusts, hail, heavy rainfall, and intense electrical activity. Accumulated precipitation was expected to range between 30 and 50 mm, possibly exceeding these values in specific locations.

The tornado originated in María Juana and moved southeastward. A waterspout, or tromba marina, formed and affected the Colonia Santa Irene area near Centeno, according to local media. It continued its path, causing hail in Granadero Baigorria, Rosario, and other southern provincial towns. Videos circulating on social media captured the tornado's impressive size and brown hue, caused by dust and earth stirred up by its winds as it moved across the fields.

One resident filmed the tornado approaching his property, quickly moving his animals from the stable to a safer location. Another video showcased the tornado's height and the accompanying storm and wind. While no human injuries occurred, damage was reported to a dairy farm and a family home. Yellow alerts for storms were also in effect for La Pampa, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, Corrientes, and Chaco provinces, while northern and northwestern provinces faced warnings for intense winds.
