Independent candidate Yeh Chu-lin rallies hometown support in Penghu

Independent candidate for Penghu County Magistrate, Yeh Chu-lin, returned to his hometown of Chong-Kuang Village in Magong City to kick off a series of local talks, drawing a large crowd.

Yeh Chu-lin began his island-wide "Chu-lin Under the Banyan Tree: See You at the Temple Square" tour on July 13th. The campaign aims to engage directly with residents in communities and temple squares across Penghu's five townships and one city. He intends to share his vision for the county and listen to the concerns of the people, fostering a discussion about Penghu's future.

With a political career spanning roles such as a legislator's assistant, village chief, Penghu County Councilor, and Mayor of Magong City, Yeh emphasizes his extensive experience in both central and local government. He highlighted his tenure as Magong Mayor, during which he focused on administrative efficiency, transparency, and practical execution, building trust with the citizenry.

This election should not fall into the blue-green confrontation framework again; it is an important moment for the people of Penghu to choose their future.

Yeh urged voters to look beyond the traditional blue-green party divide, framing the election as a critical moment for Penghu to choose its future direction. He argued that the election should be about governance capabilities, not party affiliation, and that transcending party lines is essential to integrate resources from all levels of government and society, prioritizing Penghu's needs.

His proposed policies for the first year in office include six major governance projects, five upgrade projects, and five welfare initiatives. These encompass improving transportation to the outer islands of Wang'an and Cimei, promoting cross-strait mini-three-links, and enhancing air and sea travel convenience. He also proposed a universal NT$10,000 cash handout for eligible residents, an increase in the elderly Mid-Autumn Festival gift to NT$5,000, and continued development in transportation, healthcare, tourism, fisheries, youth entrepreneurship, long-term care, and education to foster a happier, more prosperous, and competitive Penghu.
