India and Tanzania review trade, defense, and digital ties at 3rd Foreign Office Consultations

India and Tanzania convened in Dar es Salaam for their third Foreign Office Consultations (FOC), a high-level meeting aimed at reviewing and enhancing bilateral cooperation across a wide spectrum of areas. The discussions underscored a mutual commitment to deepen ties in trade, defense, digital public infrastructure, and healthcare.

The consultations were co-led by Janesh Kain, Joint Secretary for East & Southern Africa at India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Felister Rugambwa, Director of the Asia and Australasia Department in Tanzania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. During the talks, both delegations meticulously examined the full range of bilateral relations, giving particular attention to trade and investment, development partnerships, defense and security cooperation, digital public infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

To maintain the momentum in key sectors, both sides committed to organizing upcoming meetings of the Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) and the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee on dates convenient for both parties. Beyond bilateral matters, the officials engaged in a productive exchange of views on regional and international issues of shared interest. They expressed mutual satisfaction with their close coordination within the United Nations and other multilateral forums.

The MEA noted that the two nations have agreed to host the next round of Foreign Office Consultations in India. This meeting follows a recent official visit by the President of Zanzibar, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, to India from July 17-20. During his visit, President Mwinyi and India's Vice President CP Radhakrishnan explored new avenues for bilateral cooperation, including the blue economy, tourism, technology, health, and education. Discussions also highlighted the positive assessment of recent expansions in bilateral trade and investment linkages, as well as development partnerships.
