India-Bangladesh cricket series likely rescheduled for January, BCB seeks early 2027 window

The upcoming white-ball series between India and Bangladesh is likely to be rescheduled for January of next year, as discussions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian government continue. A BCCI source indicated that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is actively seeking a window at the start of the year for the series, as the originally planned September schedule remains uncertain.

India was initially slated to tour Bangladesh in August 2025, a tour that was later deferred to September 2026. The BCB had announced in January of this year that India would play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) across Dhaka and Chattogram. However, the BCCI has yet to issue an official announcement regarding the tour details.

Relations between the two cricket boards have experienced strain in recent times. Issues arose after the Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladesh all-rounder Mustafizur Rahman from their Indian Premier League (IPL) squad. The situation further escalated when the BCB, under Aminul Islam's leadership, decided against sending Bangladesh to the T20 World Cup, which was co-hosted by India.

However, there have been signs of improvement in ties between the boards since Tamim Iqbal assumed the role of BCB president. Earlier this month, Iqbal visited India and reportedly toured the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, suggesting a potential easing of tensions between the two governing bodies.
