India protests to Iran over deadly tanker attack in Strait of Hormuz

India has summoned Iran's deputy ambassador in New Delhi to lodge a protest following the death of an Indian national and injuries to eight others in an Iranian attack on two UAE oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, near Oman. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs summoned Mohammed Jawad Hosseini to deliver a formal protest regarding the Iranian assaults on the oil tankers transiting the waterway.

The incident involved the tankers "Mombasa" and "Bahia," which were targeted by two cruise missiles while navigating the southern channel of the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters. The UAE has strongly condemned the Iranian attacks, stating that they resulted in the death of one Indian person and injuries to eight others, including four seriously wounded. Six of the injured are Indian nationals, and two are from Ukraine.

This diplomatic escalation highlights the rising tensions in the region. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil supplies, and any disruption there has significant implications for international energy markets. India, a major energy consumer, has a vested interest in maintaining stability and freedom of navigation in this vital waterway.
