India’s 80th Independence Day marked in Kathmandu

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu marked India's 80th Independence Day with a vibrant celebration attended by members of the Indian community and Nepali citizens. The event commenced with the singing of "Vande Mataram" and the ceremonial hoisting of the Indian national flag by Ambassador Naveen Srivastava, accompanied by the national anthem.

Ambassador Srivastava honored the widows and next of kin of 11 deceased Indian Armed Forces personnel, presenting Army Group Insurance Fund cheques totaling Rs82 million. The embassy also recognized the achievements of winners in various competitions, including a painting contest on "Viksit Bharat," the "Viksit Bharat Run," and an inter-school quiz competition. Winners of a special edition of the "Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz" were also felicitated.

Further strengthening educational ties, the embassy announced book grants for 22 educational institutions and libraries across seven provinces in Nepal. These grants aim to enhance access to educational resources within the country. The celebrations were further enriched by cultural performances and patriotic songs presented by teachers and students from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and shared heritage among all participants.
