India’s Jaishankar to visit Ukraine and Poland from Sept. 3 to 5

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will travel to Ukraine and Poland from September 3 to 5, New Delhi’s Ministry of External Affairs said.

In Ukraine, Jaishankar is scheduled to hold bilateral consultations with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. In Poland, he will meet Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski. The ministry said the talks would focus on strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional developments and other issues of mutual interest.

The trip follows a meeting between Ukraine’s First Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Sergiy Kyslytsya, and India’s ambassador in Kyiv, Anjani Kumar. Kyslytsya said they discussed the prospects for India-Ukraine relations and India’s role in efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent message to Russian President Vladimir Putin that “the time has come to move from an endless war to an end of war.”

Kyslytsya said the two sides wanted to turn their shared interest in peace into concrete steps. His comments came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said an Indian citizen was among 12 people killed in a large Russian aerial attack. India’s embassy in Kyiv said it was in contact with the victim’s family and assisting with the repatriation of the remains.

Jaishankar’s Poland visit also comes as Warsaw anticipates a visit by Prime Minister Donald Tusk to India. Poland’s ambassador, Piotr Antoni Switalski, said the expected trip would signal that cooperation between the countries had the “green light.” He described it as a continuation of political dialogue after Modi’s 2024 visit to Poland, when the two countries signed a strategic partnership.
