India's Sindhu praises preparations for World Badminton Championships amid monkey concerns

New Delhi is gearing up to host the 2026 World Badminton Championships, with preparations underway at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Arena. The event marks a return to India after 17 years.

Concerns about monkeys and birds disrupting matches, which occurred during a previous tournament in January, have prompted the Badminton Association of India (BAI) to invest in stadium improvements. To deter monkeys, organizers have employed individuals who can imitate the calls of larger langur monkeys to scare away the rhesus macaques.

Indian badminton star P.V. Sindhu expressed her gratitude for the organizers' efforts. After practicing at the venue, she described the facilities and staff as excellent, noting the significant dedication poured into the event. Sindhu, a former World Championships winner, believes the tournament will be one of the most spectacular yet.

"As an Indian, I can proudly say that we are very lucky and happy to be able to compete on our home ground," Sindhu stated, highlighting the pride and excitement of hosting the prestigious event in India.
