India sends relief materials to Afghanistan amid devastating floods

India has provided humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in response to severe flash floods that devastated the Nuristan province. Relief materials, comprising essential food items and family tents, were delivered to Afghanistan's National Disaster Management Authority to assist communities impacted by the disaster.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced the aid delivery, stating, "India stands with the Afghan people at this difficult time." The assistance comes after catastrophic flash floods swept through Parun, the provincial capital, and adjacent districts. These floods were triggered by heavy rainfall in the mountainous region.

Taliban authorities reported that the floods have resulted in at least 20 deaths, nearly 80 injuries, and left more than 100 people missing. The deluge caused widespread destruction, sweeping away numerous homes, commercial storefronts, and agricultural land, leading to severe economic losses for residents. Specialized emergency units have been dispatched to conduct search-and-rescue operations and assess the full scale of the destruction, though casualty figures are expected to rise as rescue efforts continue in remote, cut-off communities.
