India to Offer Free Online Coaching for Competitive Exams, Educator Backs PM Modi's Plan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a significant initiative to provide free online coaching for competitive examinations, aiming to alleviate the financial strain on middle-class Indian families. During his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, Modi highlighted that the pressure to enroll children in expensive coaching classes had become a "massive burden."

I really appreciate Hon'ble Prime Minister's Promise about Free online Coaching for all needy students. I have always believed that online is the only way to make quality education accessible to remote towns and villages. I want to see this happening on ground coz execution is the main part.

Physics Wallah (PW) founder Alakh Pandey lauded the Prime Minister's promise, expressing his full support for the program. Pandey, a prominent figure in India's online education sector, stated on X that the online format is crucial for delivering quality education to remote towns and villages. He offered "unconditional support to Govt for this," emphasizing that "Quality Education should be free for Every kid of India."

Modi explained that the government would utilize existing "digital public infrastructure" and "excellent talent and teachers" to establish a comprehensive network. This initiative addresses the widespread concern that parents feel compelled to send their children to coaching centers to maintain social prestige, leading to substantial annual spending. The Prime Minister expressed a desire to save these families from such expenses.

The race for coaching classes has become a massive burden for our middle-class families. Every parent feels that if they don't send their child to a coaching class, they aren't considered a 'prestigious' family. We are concerned about the thousands of crores of rupees these poor and middle-class families spend; we want to save them that expense.

The announcement comes as entrance exams for medical, engineering, and civil services remain highly competitive and a major focus for Indian youth. The government's plan aims to democratize access to preparation resources, making quality coaching available to all students regardless of their economic background.
