Tamil Nadu CM announces higher pensions, aid for freedom fighters, ex-servicemen

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin announced a series of enhanced welfare measures for ex-servicemen and freedom fighters during his Independence Day address. These initiatives aim to provide greater financial support and acknowledge the contributions of those who served the nation. For ex-servicemen, the marriage assistance for their two daughters will be doubled from ₹25,000 to ₹50,000. Additionally, differently-abled ex-servicemen and their dependents will see an increase in their monthly financial assistance, rising from ₹5,000 to ₹7,000. The pensions for freedom fighters are also being raised. The monthly pension provided by the state government will increase to ₹23,000. Furthermore, the monthly family pension for the families of freedom fighters will be elevated to ₹12,500. Special pensions for the legal heirs of historical leaders like Veerapandiya Kattabomman, Muthuramalinga Raghunatha Sethupathi, and the Marudhu Brothers will also see an increase, reaching ₹11,500 per month. Stalin reiterated his government's commitment to a transparent, truthful, and honest administration, guided by the principle of equality. He pledged to build a Tamil Nadu free from bribery, corruption, and substance abuse, with a strong focus on women's safety and social justice. The Chief Minister emphasized that the welfare of the people is the absolute top priority. The government is also continuing and refining people-centric welfare schemes, including the "Amma Unavagam" (Amma Canteens) introduced by the late AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa. The breakfast scheme, currently for primary school students, will be expanded to include students from Class 6 to Class 8 starting September 15. Highlighting the transformation of government offices and police stations into public service centers, Stalin stressed the importance of treating citizens with dignity when they seek solutions or assistance. He affirmed that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government operates on the foundation of public welfare, maintaining administrative cooperation with the Central Government while implementing these schemes.
