Indian Schools suspend outdoor activities to protect students from summer heat

Indian schools across Oman have suspended all outdoor activities, including physical education classes, sports, and morning assemblies, as part of a comprehensive heat safety protocol. The Board of Directors issued the directive to ensure student well-being during the peak summer months as schools reopen for the new academic session.

The Board stated that student safety, health, and comfort are central to school operations. Measures include mandatory hydration breaks throughout the day and ensuring access to chilled, hygienic drinking water. Schools must also conduct inspections of air-conditioning systems in classrooms, labs, common areas, and buses, with immediate repairs if needed. Transport operators are instructed to maintain optimal cooling in buses and prevent students from waiting inside parked vehicles.

Special attention is being given to younger children and those with pre-existing medical conditions. School clinics are equipped to handle heat-related illnesses, and staff are trained to identify and respond to symptoms of heat stress. Board Chairman Syed Ahmad Salman emphasized the child-first approach, stating, "As we welcome children back to the classroom, we have taken immediate, proactive steps to shield them from adverse weather conditions so they can focus on what matters most, learning, growing and thriving."
