Indonesia accelerates national salt industry area development

The Indonesian government is prioritizing the development of the National Salt Industry Area (K-SIGN) in Rote Ndao, East Nusa Tenggara, aiming to fast-track national salt self-sufficiency and bolster food security. This strategic project is designed to significantly boost the country's salt production capacity.

Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, accompanied by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono and the Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Yandri Susanto, visited the K-SIGN site. They were joined by local officials and representatives from PT Garam and PT Nindya Karya, the project's implementing contractor.

Minister Hasan highlighted the project's importance for the local communities of Rote Ndao and East Nusa Tenggara, stating, "If we want to be independent, then production must be strengthened so that the results are enjoyed by our own people." He stressed that the acceleration aligns with presidential directives and requires strong collaboration between central and regional governments, as well as all stakeholders, to ensure the project's timely completion and positive economic impact.

PT Nindya Karya, as the contractor, is responsible for building the integrated salt area infrastructure. Its Director, Firmansyah, affirmed the company's commitment to supporting national salt self-sufficiency, food security, and the independence of Indonesia's salt industry. He assured that the company would prioritize construction quality, work safety, timely delivery, and sustainability to ensure the area provides long-term benefits to coastal communities and strengthens the national salt supply chain.
