Indonesia allocates $5.9 trillion for national internship and vocational training programs

Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower is injecting an additional 5.9 trillion rupiah into its national internship and vocational training programs for 2026. The initiative aims to significantly boost the skills and competitiveness of the Indonesian workforce.

Minister of Manpower Yassierli announced that the national internship program, MagangHub, will receive 4.2 trillion rupiah, while vocational training will be bolstered by 1.7 trillion rupiah. This funding is part of a broader strategy to cultivate a superior human resource base through practical skills aligned with industry demands.

The vocational training component targets 300,000 participants. It will offer a range of skills, from traditional trades like welding and auto repair to emerging fields such as smart farming and smart building. Training durations will vary, with welding courses lasting up to six months, reflecting the specific competency needs. Graduates of the welding program, in particular, have shown strong employability, with some securing high-paying positions abroad.

The Ministry will implement these programs through its 42 training centers and collaborate with regional government training facilities to maximize reach. "Hopefully, this proves that the government, the Ministry of Manpower, our President (Prabowo Subianto) want to build superior human resources," Yassierli stated, highlighting the scale of the vocational training initiative.

For the National Internship Program, 150,000 slots are available in three phases. The first phase, which closed on July 28, 2026, saw 300,000 applicants vying for 50,000 positions, indicating strong interest. Participant selection for this phase will conclude by August 5, 2026.
