Indonesia Faces Mostly Cloudy Skies, With Heavy Rain Warnings in Some Areas

Indonesia can expect predominantly cloudy to partly cloudy skies across most of the archipelago on Sunday, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Meanwhile, on the island of Kalimantan, Pontianak, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda are expected to be covered in clouds.

Forecaster Bintari indicated that cities such as Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Jambi, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya will experience these conditions. The island of Kalimantan, including Pontianak, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda, is also forecast to be cloudy.

In the eastern part of the country, Mataram, Kupang, Gorontalo, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke are expected to see cloudy to partly cloudy weather. Conversely, Semarang, Denpasar, Makassar, and Manado might experience sunny to partly cloudy conditions.

Meanwhile, sunny and partly cloudy weather is potential in Semarang, Denpasar, Makassar, and Manado.

Light rain is anticipated in Tanjung Pinang, Tanjung Selor, Mamuju, Palu, and Ambon. However, several other areas, including Padang, Bengkulu, Bandar Lampung, Banjarmasin, Kendari, and Nabire, may contend with smoke, haze, and hazy air.

The BMKG issued a warning for potential moderate to heavy rainfall in the Riau Islands, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi. These conditions are influenced by atmospheric dynamics, notably tropical cyclone 97W, located in the Pacific Ocean northeast of Papua. While the cyclone has a low chance of developing further, it is contributing to convergence and confluence areas that enhance rain cloud formation.

In several other areas, smoke, haze, and hazy air are predicted for Padang, Bengkulu, Bandar Lampung, Banjarmasin, Kendari, and Nabire.
