Indonesia Joins World AI Organization Founded by China's Xi Jinping

Indonesia is among the founding nations of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), established during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2026 in Shanghai. The nation has committed to collaborating on an open, inclusive, and beneficial artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto represented Indonesia at the conference, conveying a message from President Prabowo Subianto. Hartarto expressed gratitude to China for initiating WAICO and inviting Indonesia as a founding member, affirming Indonesia's willingness to cooperate in developing the global AI ecosystem. This participation aligns with President Subianto's directive to advance AI development and utilization within Indonesia.

We convey greetings from the President of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, and thank the Chinese Government for initiating the formation of WAICO and inviting Indonesia as a Founding Member States. Indonesia is ready to cooperate with WAICO for the development of the world's AI ecosystem.

During the WAIC 2026 opening, Chinese President Xi Jinping advocated for global collaboration in AI development, stating it should not be a monopoly of any single nation. China plans to develop an open-source AI platform for collaborative use and will host capacity-building programs for millions globally over the next five years to bridge the digital divide. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed WAICO, anticipating it will foster international cooperation for inclusive and responsible AI development that supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
