Indonesia, Malaysia Boost Halal Industry Cooperation and Connectivity

Indonesia and Malaysia are deepening their strategic partnership, with a particular emphasis on bolstering the halal industry and enhancing bilateral connectivity. This renewed focus aims to foster economic growth and deliver tangible benefits to the citizens of both nations.

During a recent visit to Kuala Lumpur, Indonesian Ambassador Raden Dato' Mohammad Iman Hascarya Kusumo met with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The discussions centered on strengthening the strategic alliance, including plans for this year's Annual Consultation between Indonesia and Malaysia. A key agenda item was improving connectivity through the potential opening of roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipping routes.

The halal sector emerged as a significant area for collaboration. Both countries recognized the vast potential for cooperation in developing the halal industry. This includes joint efforts in promoting halal products, organizing expos and exhibitions, and strengthening partnerships that can drive economic expansion within this growing market.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi underscored the importance of Indonesia as a partner, describing the relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia as "very good, close, and special" at bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels. The meeting, held in a warm and constructive atmosphere, reaffirmed the shared commitment to fortifying the strategic partnership between the two neighboring countries.
