Indonesia Orders Urgent Rice Shipment to Alor to Stabilize Prices

National Food Agency (Bapanas) Head Andi Amran Sulaiman has ordered state logistics company Perum Bulog to expedite the delivery of Stabilized Supply and Price (SPHP) rice to Alor Regency in East Nusa Tenggara. This urgent measure aims to curb soaring rice prices in the remote island region.

The instruction was issued following a dialogue with students at Diponegoro University, where Sulaiman received reports detailing the high cost of rice in Alor. He directed Bulog to swiftly distribute SPHP rice and additional rice aid to ensure residents can purchase rice at the government-stipulated price, which he indicated would be around Rp12,500 per kilogram. Sulaiman, who also serves as the Minister of Agriculture, stressed that the rice distribution must reach all parts of Alor Regency, including its remote islands and inland areas. He pledged to personally monitor the distribution process to ensure the government's intervention effectively stabilizes prices. Bapanas data indicates that from March to July 2026, Alor received 764,070 kilograms of SPHP rice through various channels, including Rumah Pangan Kita (RPK) outlets, traditional markets, and low-price food movements (GPM).

In addition to SPHP rice, Alor has received significant support through the government's rice aid program. As of July 31, 2026, 746,000 kilograms of rice aid had been distributed. Combined, the SPHP rice and food aid initiatives have injected approximately 1.5 million kilograms of rice into the Alor community, demonstrating a substantial government effort to ensure food security and price stability in the region.
