Indonesia Prepares to Host 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup

Indonesia is gearing up to host the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup, a significant new regional soccer tournament for Southeast Asia. The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) is awaiting confirmation from FIFA regarding the hosting arrangements.

PSSI Chairperson Erick Thohir indicated that Hong Kong might co-host the event. He described the FIFA ASEAN Cup as the largest football tournament in Southeast Asia under FIFA's banner. Thohir believes FIFA is actively promoting more competitions in East and Southeast Asia, drawing parallels with the success of the FIFA Arab Cup in the Middle East and Africa.

"The goal is to elevate the quality of competition among Asian nations ahead of future World Cups," Thohir stated. He views the FIFA ASEAN Cup as a strategic investment by FIFA, acknowledging the growing potential for football development across Southeast Asia. The Indonesian government has officially backed the bid, with President Prabowo Subianto sending a letter of support to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
