Indonesia's Nutrition Agency Head Resigns for Health Treatment Abroad

Nanik S. Deyang, the Head of Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN), announced her resignation on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, citing health reasons that require her to seek treatment abroad. In a Facebook post, Deyang stated her intention to depart for treatment, emphasizing it was for a second opinion and based on a colleague's recommendation, not a lack of trust in Indonesian doctors.

With a heavy heart, I bid farewell to Mr. President to undergo treatment abroad for my heart, and I plan to depart today.

President Prabowo has accepted her resignation but requested Deyang continue to oversee the National Nutrition Body. He also plans to establish a Supervisory Board for the agency, with Deyang expressing her willingness to serve as its chairwoman. "I can still keep an eye on things, as long as it does not involve handling money, I swear I have acute trauma," she wrote, adding a smiling emoji.

Deyang also conveyed her continued support for President Prabowo's free nutritious meal project, asserting its importance for public welfare and not for political gain. She also hinted at her replacement, describing the individual as being like a sibling and someone she would hold accountable if necessary.
