Indonesia, Thailand Can Lead Global Food Security, Kadin Says

Indonesia and Thailand are poised to become global leaders in food security, according to the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). The organization believes the two nations can jointly harness their natural resources, biodiversity, and agricultural expertise to achieve this goal.

During the Indonesia-Thailand Business Forum in Jakarta, Kadin Chair Anindya Bakrie highlighted significant opportunities for multifaceted cooperation. Beyond food security, he pointed to potential collaborations in the halal industry, clean energy, digital connectivity, and the digital economy. Bakrie emphasized that both countries, with their large populations and economic potential, should pursue innovative measures.

Bakrie specifically noted Thailand's international reputation in agriculture, particularly its rice and tropical fruit exports. He contrasted this with Indonesia's vast resources and high level of biodiversity. This complementarity, he argued, allows the two nations to build resilient food systems together rather than compete.

These discussions followed a meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Their strategic partnership roadmap for 2026–2030 aims to strengthen bilateral ties. President Prabowo expressed optimism that this roadmap would help achieve a trade target of US$20 billion by 2030, underscoring economic cooperation as a key pillar of their relationship.
