Indonesia to Hold People's Festival and Carnival for Independence Day

Indonesia is gearing up to commemorate its 81st Independence Day on August 17th, with the Ministry of State Secretariat announcing a series of public activities alongside the official ceremony. While registration for invitations to the main event has closed due to overwhelming interest, the government is ensuring the public can still participate in the celebrations.

The Ministry of State Secretariat expressed gratitude for the "extraordinary and continuous enthusiasm" of Indonesians who registered for invitations. Those who successfully secured a spot have been advised to monitor their email for further instructions from the committee. The ministry emphasized that official information will only be disseminated through its social media accounts.

For the vast majority who did not receive an invitation to the formal ceremony, the government has organized the "People's Festival" at the National Monument (Monas) area and the "Independence Carnival." This carnival will proceed along a route spanning from Monas to Sarinah and the HI Roundabout in Jakarta, offering accessible festivities for all citizens.

Earlier, on August 5th, the first day of registration, a remarkable 128,331 people had already applied for invitations to the ceremony. The total number of applicants has not yet been detailed by the ministry. The government is encouraging widespread public participation in these open events, which form a significant part of the national commemoration. In related news, Jakarta has also introduced special public transport fares of just Rp1 to mark the occasion.
