Indonesia to Release 2026 Population Data for More Accurate Services

Indonesia's Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) under the Ministry of Interior is set to release its first-half 2026 population data, aiming to build more accurate and integrated public services tailored to community needs. Director General Teguh Setyabudi emphasized that clean population data is not an end goal but a starting point for the state to truly serve its citizens.

This upcoming data release is considered a primary asset for implementing the National Identification Number (NIK) and Digital Identity Card (IKD) as the bedrock of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The Directorate General will convene a National Coordination Meeting for Population and Civil Registration, alongside the data release, in Jakarta from August 3-4, 2026.

Setyabudi explained that the data is the result of national consolidation, involving continuous verification, validation, and updates from civil registration offices across Indonesia. This rigorous process aims to minimize data duplication, correct anomalies, and accurately record changes in population status. He stressed that high-quality data is essential for the success of digital public service transformation, with NIK serving as the key identifier connecting various electronic systems across ministries, agencies, regional governments, and the private sector.

Therefore, the first-half 2026 Population Data Release becomes the main capital in the implementation of the National Identification Number (NIK) and Digital Identity Card (IKD) as the foundation of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).
