Indonesia Welcomes Return of Humanitarian Volunteers Detained by Israel

Nine Indonesian citizens, participating in a humanitarian mission, have safely returned to Indonesia after being detained by Israeli military forces. The volunteers, part of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0, arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Sunday afternoon.

On this afternoon, with great gratitude to Allah SWT, the Almighty God, we receive back the arrival of our brothers and sisters who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0.

Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that their return was secured through coordination and negotiations between the Indonesian government and various parties. He expressed gratitude for the safe arrival of the volunteers, who were intercepted and detained on May 18. "Alhamdulillah on this afternoon, our nine brothers and sisters arrived safely in the homeland," Sugiono said during a press conference.

Indonesia strongly condemns the detention of the volunteers, which the Foreign Minister described as a violation of international law. "It is clearly a violation of international law. They are civilians who are bringing humanitarian aid to our brothers and sisters in Palestine," Sugiono asserted. He highlighted that the volunteers were carrying out a humanitarian mission for the Palestinian people.

The government also extended appreciation to all entities that assisted in the release and repatriation process. Special thanks were given to the governments of Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt for their crucial role, particularly Turkey's assistance in escorting the Indonesians from Ashdod. The successful return underscores Indonesia's commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts and advocating for the rights of its citizens abroad.
