Indonesian Agency to Protect Family of Official's Household Head Amid Death Probe

The Indonesian Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is taking proactive steps to protect the family of Sutrimo, who was reportedly the head of household for a former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes. LPSK Deputy Chairperson Susilaningtias announced the agency's intention to visit Sutrimo's family in Banyumas, Central Java, to assess their protection needs.

"LPSK is proactively addressing this case; we will go to the family as soon as possible," Susilaningtias stated. The agency will first evaluate the potential threats and the type of protection required. However, she added that LPSK could provide emergency protection if an immediate need arises.

This development follows the family's official report of Sutrimo's death to the Banyumas Police. Sutrimo's brother, Suting, and his son, Abhi, filed the report as representatives of Sutrimo's heirs. Initially unaware of any irregularities, the family decided to report the death after conflicting media reports raised questions about the circumstances.

The family has also addressed accusations that they did not report the death because they received a substantial sum of money. They are seeking legal certainty regarding the cause of Sutrimo's death, aiming to confirm whether it was a natural death or if foul play was involved. "There are accusations of irregularities in the news, but the family's understanding was that there were no irregularities at the time because we were clear," a family spokesperson said.
