Indonesian Ambassador Attends Khamenei's Funeral in Iran

The Indonesian Ambassador to Iran, Roy Soemirat, represented the Indonesian government at the final tribute and joint prayer ceremony for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Indonesia's attendance was at the official invitation of the Iranian government.

"The Indonesian government expresses its deepest appreciation for the invitation from the Iranian government to attend the series of tribute events for the late Ayatollah Khamenei," stated Yvonne Mewengkang, spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She added that Indonesia would be represented by its ambassador in Tehran.

According to official Iranian government information, the tribute ceremonies for Khamenei will take place from July 3 to July 9, 2026, in various cities across Iran and Iraq. His burial is scheduled for July 9 in the city of Mashhad. The procession began with the coffin being carried by mourners at the Grand Mosalla in Tehran on Friday, July 3.

Iranian state television showed President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and other state officials paying their respects. Several world leaders also attended the six-day commemoration events. Following the public ceremony in Tehran, the procession will continue to several holy cities in Iran and Iraq before the final burial.
