Indonesian authorities uncover eight drug cases involving shipped packages

Indonesian authorities uncovered eight narcotics and psychotropic-substance cases after traffickers used delivery packages to move drugs through Ambon and Ternate during August 2026.

The operation brought together regional and provincial units from Customs, the Indonesian police and the National Narcotics Agency. Participating offices included Customs authorities from Maluku, Jakarta and West Java, along with Customs offices in Ambon and Ternate, the Maluku Regional Police and narcotics agencies in Maluku and North Maluku.

Officials seized 97 grams of methamphetamine, 223 grams of cannabis, nine grams of ecstasy and four vape cartridges suspected of containing the narcotic substance etomidate. Investigators found drugs hidden in shoes, vehicle spare parts and drinking bottles.

Several suspected perpetrators were arrested. The suspects and seized items remain under further investigation by the Maluku National Narcotics Agency and regional police, who are working to identify the networks and other people involved.

Estty Purwadiani Hidayatie, head of the Maluku Customs office, said cooperation and information sharing among law-enforcement agencies helped the operation succeed. She said authorities would strengthen monitoring of shipped goods and coordination with other institutions to prevent Maluku and North Maluku from becoming trafficking routes. She also credited delivery companies for supporting the inspections.
