Indonesian Deputy Police Chief Oversees Appearance Checks for 404 Future Police Academy Cadets

Indonesia's National Police are meticulously evaluating the next generation of leaders, with the Deputy Chief of Police, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo, personally overseeing the final appearance checks for 404 candidates vying for a spot at the Police Academy (Akpol) in 2026.

"The future of Polri will greatly depend on how well the next generation is prepared. How we prepare not only human resources with great abilities but also strong character, social awareness, and the courage to lead change," Prasetyo stated at the Akpol campus in Semarang, Central Java. These checks are the culmination of a rigorous selection process, designed to assess candidates comprehensively.

The two-day evaluation, held on July 24-25, serves as a final review of the regional and central selection committees' findings. It aims to provide a holistic assessment of each candidate's suitability to become a police officer. The selection journey began with administrative checks, academic tests, physical fitness assessments, psychological evaluations, medical examinations, and mental and personality deepening (PMK) at the regional level, managed by 36 regional police HR bureaus.

Candidates who successfully passed the regional selections then advanced to the central selection at Akpol. Here, they undergo another series of tests mirroring those at the regional level. Prasetyo emphasized that these "appearance checks" (Rikpil) go beyond physical looks, serving as a thorough evaluation to guarantee that the selected individuals truly embody the qualities required of future Polri officers. The current group comprises 365 male candidates and 35 female candidates.
