Indonesian DPR Deputy Speaker Watches World Cup Final, Stresses Need for Early Football Development

Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo, Deputy Speaker of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), joined a public viewing of the 2026 World Cup final in Jakarta. The event, organized by Perum LKBN ANTARA at the ANTARA Heritage Center, brought together football enthusiasts to watch the championship match between Spain and Argentina.

During her address, Saraswati underscored that the viewing party was more than just a casual gathering. She described the final, pitting two global football powerhouses against each other, as a "historic moment." She also drew attention to the venue itself, noting, "This building is a historic building," emphasizing the dual significance of the occasion.

Reflecting on the tournament, Saraswati observed the early exits of several favored teams. Despite individual preferences for national teams, she stated that all Indonesians share a common aspiration: "We have a dream that Indonesia will be in the World Cup; I think that is not just the President's dream, but the dream of all of us," she declared with enthusiasm.

Furthermore, the politician elaborated on the path to improving Indonesian football. She argued that progress hinges not only on technical skills but also on fundamental aspects like cultivating the right mindset and instilling discipline from a young age. "Athletes in other countries have been prepared since they were toddlers; we must reach that stage," she asserted, highlighting the critical need for early development programs to bridge the gap with international standards.
