Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo Holds First Joint Wedding Ceremony in Sapporo

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo (KBRI Tokyo) successfully hosted its inaugural joint wedding ceremony for Indonesian citizens in Sapporo, Hokkaido. The event, held at the Sapporo Mosque on Sunday, July 19, 2026, marked a significant occasion for the Indonesian diaspora in Japan.

This ceremony was the first of its kind organized by KBRI Tokyo in Japan, demonstrating a commitment to serving the community's needs. The event was a collaborative effort, involving local Indonesian community organizations such as the Majelis Wakil Cabang Istimewa Nahdlatul Ulama (MWCINU) Hokkaido, Pimpinan Ranting Istimewa Muhammadiyah (PRIM) Hokkaido, Komunitas Ngaji Kuy, Sahabat Hokkaido Indonesia (SaHI), and Pengajian Muslimah Sakura.

Eight couples tied the knot during the solemn proceedings. Of these, two were unions between Indonesian nationals, while the remaining six were mixed marriages involving Indonesian citizens and Japanese nationals. The ceremony was attended by Indonesian community members from across Hokkaido, as well as Consular officials from KBRI Tokyo, including Coordinator of Protocol and Consular Functions Dara Yusilawati and Deputy Honorary Consul of Sapporo Takizawa.

Ambassador of Indonesia to Japan, Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir, conveyed her well wishes to the newlyweds through a message emphasizing the central role of family in life's happiness. She expressed her hope that the couples would build families founded on sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah, principles of tranquility, love, and compassion. The event underscored the embassy's dedication to supporting Indonesian citizens abroad and fostering strong community bonds.
