Indonesian entrepreneurs explore global market opportunities in China's Yiwu

A delegation of 52 Indonesian entrepreneurs, comprising authentic business owners rather than project speculators, recently embarked on a significant business trip to Yiwu and Hangzhou in China. Organized by the Serikat Usaha Muhammadiyah (SUMU), a community of entrepreneurs affiliated with Muhammadiyah, the trip took place from August 13-18, 2026.

The chosen destination, Yiwu, is globally recognized as a central hub for Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs). Located in Zhejiang province, approximately 158 kilometers from Hangzhou, the city where Jack Ma launched Alibaba, Yiwu hosts the world's largest wholesale market for SMME products. Often dubbed the 'global supermarket,' it attracts international traders seeking a vast array of light consumer goods.

The heart of Yiwu's economic activity lies in the Yiwu International Trade City, also known as Futian Market. This expansive wholesale complex spans over 6 million square meters and features more than 75,000 stalls. It is supported by a robust financial system, cashless payment options like Alipay, modern logistics, and accessible transportation, facilitating smooth export operations.

These range from accessories, toys, fashion items, and kitchenware to textiles, electronics, home decor, automotive components, and agricultural equipment. Notably, it even supplies items for the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia.
