Indonesian forces evacuate workers after deadly Papua separatist attack

Indonesian security forces have evacuated three workers from Papua's restive Tolikara Regency following a deadly attack by separatist militants. One of the evacuated workers died, while two survived the assault, which occurred Sunday night in the Kanggime District.

The incident initially resulted in four reported deaths, with some reports suggesting five victims. The Indonesian Army's Task Force for Border Security (Satgas Pamtas Yonif 511/DY), along with other security units, conducted a tight operation to rescue the survivors. Commander of the Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Infanteri Amar Supratman, stated that the evacuated individuals were handed over to the Illu Police and the Tolikara Regency government.

We conducted an evacuation of three victims, one of whom died and two survived. All three were handed over to the Illu Police and the Tolikara Regency Government after the evacuation. The evacuation of victims was carried out twice at different points about 400 meters apart.

Evacuation efforts involved two teams operating at different points approximately 400 meters apart. The teams successfully reached the location and extracted the three workers. The deceased was identified as Alfons Defonsius Reyaan, 53, while the survivors were Joel Jeriko Marathon Diora Naibaho, 36, and Supredo Ulipili, 56. The operation was reported to have proceeded safely and smoothly.

The two teams immediately moved to the location together with other security forces. Before entering the target area, the target was identified by the Commander of the Yonif 511/DY Task Force by communicating with the surviving victims.
