Indonesian Government Allocates $2.04 Trillion Transport Stimulus for Holiday Travel

The Indonesian government is rolling out a significant transportation stimulus package totaling IDR 2.04 trillion to support the upcoming school holidays and the year-end festive season. This initiative aims to bolster the national economy by ensuring public purchasing power remains strong and encouraging travel.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, and Minister of Manpower Yassierli announced the plan in Jakarta. The stimulus, part of the second-half 2026 economic stimulus package, is designed to make travel more affordable for citizens.

"Besides the school holiday period, the government is also providing incentives and transportation discounts for Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027. We are announcing this early so that the public has the opportunity to prepare their journeys better," said Minister Purwagandhi. He expressed hope that the program would help people travel at more affordable costs while stimulating economic activity across various regions.

For the 2026 school holiday period alone, approximately IDR 663.26 billion in stimulus is allocated. This includes discounts for economy train tickets (IDR 96.21 billion), PT Pelni sea transport (IDR 67.33 billion), and waivers for port service fees on ferry routes (IDR 26.96 billion). Additionally, the government is providing IDR 472.73 billion in state-borne VAT incentives for economy class domestic airline tickets. These measures are expected to benefit around 4.4 million passengers and over 377,000 vehicles.
