Indonesian Islamic Student Group to Hold Anti-Government Protest Today

Thousands of Indonesian students are set to launch a nationwide protest against the government of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The Central Board of the Islamic Student Movement of Indonesia (PB PMII) announced the demonstration, titled "#Total Evaluation of the Red and White Cabinet of Prabowo-Gibran," which will take place continuously from Monday, June 22, to Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

The protest is expected to be held simultaneously at around 300 locations across Indonesia, with the main gathering point in Jakarta at the PB PMII Secretariat starting at 2:00 PM Western Indonesian Time. PB PMII stated that the action aims to "totally evaluate" the cabinet, citing concerns over the current administration's unclear policy direction.

The action will be carried out simultaneously at approximately 300 points across Indonesia.

In a statement posted on their Instagram account, @pmiiofficial, PB PMII outlined five key demands. These include upholding the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, restoring public trust, strengthening national economic independence, reshuffling the cabinet for efficiency and competence, and resetting the BGN (likely referring to a government agency), disbanding the Red and White Village Cooperative, and improving teacher welfare.

This planned protest follows recent demonstrations where students engaged with House of Representatives (DPR) leaders. On Friday, June 19, student representatives met with DPR leaders, including Minister of Energy Bahlil Lahadalia and BGN chief Nanik S. Deyang, to voice their concerns. Traffic was diverted as thousands of students from various universities gathered at the DPR building.
