Indonesian, Jordanian foundations partner to treat Gaza cancer patients

Dompet Dhuafa, an Indonesian humanitarian organization, and the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) in Jordan have formalized a strategic partnership to bolster support for cancer patients from Gaza. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Dompet Dhuafa Philanthropy Building in Jakarta.

This collaboration is specifically designed to aid cancer patients from Gaza and their accompanying families who are receiving treatment at the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) in Amman, Jordan. The agreement, signed by Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation, and Madeleine El-Sallaq, Director of Corporate, Fundraising Programs, and Development Department at KHCF, marks a significant step in Indonesian-Jordanian humanitarian cooperation.

Juwaini emphasized Dompet Dhuafa's ongoing commitment to assisting the Palestinian people, particularly cancer patients and their families. "Our support extends beyond medical aspects to include the living needs of patient escorts who have had to leave their homes and lives for months due to the war," he stated. He highlighted the complex humanitarian crisis in Gaza since the outbreak of major conflict in October 2023, noting that thousands of cancer patients face difficulties accessing healthcare as many hospitals in Gaza are damaged or non-operational.

KHCF, a non-profit foundation established in 2001, supports the operations of KHCC, a leading cancer treatment center in the Middle East. Since the conflict began in 2023, KHCC has served as a primary referral hospital for evacuated cancer patients from Gaza. To date, the center has admitted 260 cancer patients from Gaza, accompanied by 567 family members.

Madeleine El-Sallaq expressed gratitude for the trust and concern shown by Dompet Dhuafa and the Indonesian public. "We greatly appreciate the swift response and commitment from Dompet Dhuafa and the Indonesian people. This support helps us provide the best treatment while meeting the logistical needs of cancer patients from Gaza and their accompanying families," she said. Through this partnership, Dompet Dhuafa will contribute to meeting these humanitarian needs by mobilizing support from the Indonesian community.
