Indonesian Lawmaker Rachmat Gobel Dies

Rachmat Gobel, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives representing Gorontalo for the NasDem Party, died on Friday. The news of his passing was shared by his political colleagues and the Gorontalo Provincial Government.

The Gorontalo Provincial Government posted on Instagram, "Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un. Our deepest condolences on the passing of H. Rachmat Gobel, Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Gorontalo Constituency."

M Rifai Darus, a spokesperson for the Governor of Papua, also expressed condolences via Instagram, remembering Gobel's "stories, spirit of innovation, and new ideas for regional development," hoping that "this spirit can be continued."

Beyond his political career, Gobel was a notable businessman, representing the second generation of the Gobel Group, following in the footsteps of his father, Thayeb Mohammad Gobel. He previously served as the Minister of Trade during the first term of President Joko Widodo's administration from 2014 to 2019.
