Speaking during a carnival celebrating Indonesia's 81st Independence Day, Thohir highlighted the athletes' dedication, stating they are modern-day heroes who sacrifice their daily lives to proudly wave the Indonesian flag abroad.

Thohir, accompanied by Deputy Minister Taufik Hidayat and Chef de Mission for the 2026 Asian Games Todotua Pasaribu, joined athletes and sports legends on a decorated float. The Minister's remarks precede Indonesia's participation in the 2026 Asian Games, scheduled from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, Japan. Thohir expressed his hope that public support will significantly boost the athletes' motivation and performance, aiming to bring home a substantial medal haul.
