Indonesian Ministry Pushes for Wider Digital ID Activation

Indonesia's Ministry of Home Affairs is actively promoting the expansion of Digital Population Identification (IKD) activation across regional governments. This initiative aims to accelerate the digital transformation of population administration services nationwide, positioning the IKD as a crucial gateway for increasingly integrated public services.

The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) is encouraging all regional administrations to broaden IKD adoption. A recent rebranding event for Population and Civil Registration Services in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, underscored these efforts. The event, which included outreach services, was attended by several national and local officials, emphasizing the collaborative approach to digitalizing administrative services.

Officials highlighted the importance of accurate population data as a foundation for effective governance. Deputy Speaker of Commission II of the House of Representatives, Bahtra Banong, stated that leveraging accurate population data is vital for ensuring social assistance programs reach their intended recipients effectively. He stressed that digital transformation through IKD utilization needs continuous encouragement to make government programs more efficient, transparent, and beneficial to the public. Erliani Budi Lestari, Director of Population and Civil Registration Apparatus Development at Dukcapil, added that population administration services have evolved beyond mere document issuance, now forming the core of digital government operations, with accurate population data serving as a strategic asset.
