Indonesian Ministry warns against online hate speech and provocation

Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) has issued a stern warning against the proliferation of hate speech and provocative content on social media. Alex Sabar, the Director General of Digital Space Supervision, urged citizens to refrain from engaging in such behavior, particularly in relation to an upcoming demonstration at the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on August 27, 2026.

Sabar stressed the critical need for the public to exercise caution and responsibility when using social media platforms. The ministry aims to foster a positive and constructive online environment, especially during periods of public assembly and political activity. The directive underscores the government's commitment to preventing the misuse of digital platforms for inciting conflict or spreading misinformation.
